Awoken to the truth

Me alongside many other bats that I consider family dwell within a peaceful call of which we
refer to as our home. Though we attempt to live peacefully within this cave, many warriors of
many races often disturb us. Fairies, elves, humans, hybrids, each and every creature invades
upon our sanctuary that we find peace in. They show up so often that we struggle to grasp
moments that we can play or sleep…The instincts are always so hard to control.
“I must.. Attack” I think to myself.
And so I give in to the urge.Before I know it, everything goes black. Suddenly I’m back to where I was prior to attacking and then the urge consumes me once again as the cycle repeats itself.I don’t think my family sees the things I’m seeing nor understands the reality I’m led to
understand.In the short lived moments of peace and quiet that we get I ask them about it, but they say they
haven’t seen any trace of any warriors in the cave.. Its like their memory of it had completely
vanished. They say how they believe there's been no intruders for many years, I did all I could
to tell them but they wrote it off as me eating something strange and hallucinating it all. At times, I almost begin to believe I might be the delusional one.“Today!” I tell myself. “Today I won’t attack! I’ll watch clearly.” I reaffirm.It was difficult, it was incredibly difficult, to drag myself from the innate instinct but I was able to
stop myself and look. I watched my family die.. And reappear, and die once again. Constantly,
inevitably, they died...Why can’t they all just leave us alone... I need to make them leave us alone.In the few moments the warriors stopped invading the cave we called our home, I decided to
leave. In those moments I rushed for the entrance.The atmosphere immediately changed as the sun hit my face and began to scorch my eyes. I
didn’t allow myself much time to sit and wait until I had adjusted to the sun. as my
kin were being killed by each moment that had passed, whether or not they could remember it.After soaring the sky over many towns and listening in on many sorts of people and warriors
alike, I’ve discovered a number of disturbing things...Supposedly we’re inside of a “Video game”. Not that I’m entirely sure what that really is, however
I do know about games. The warriors are supposedly players of this game that may disappear
and reappear whenever they so please. The others are called “NPCs”, the category I seem to
be a part of. We can’t die, or even age, no matter what. I’ve also discovered why my kind was
being attacked and killed constantly. We’re a certain type of NPC that can drop experience
points and other loot for newer players. Killing us apparently makes them stronger like we’re
some sort of tools...Why? Why must we suffer just so they can gain more power..C-can I.. also get stronger? Like they do?After searching I had found a type of monster NPC that was weaker than me and after killing
it.. I felt a bit stronger. It's like.. I could do it, I can get stronger and protect my family!I felt horrible, repeating the same thing the humans had forced us to suffer through, doing that to
beings just like me.. It felt terrible, and yet, I have to do it, I have to protect the ones I care
about.After killing more and more, stronger and stronger monsters, and even players, I began to feel
different, things began feeling strange like my body was changing and soon...I... had feet? And arms? A-and horns!?As my body changed in appearance, I also began feeling far stronger than ever before. It was
finally time. After that day I’d gone back home and killed any warriors that would dare threaten
my home or family, It felt great, the more players I killed, the less they came and eventually I
was finally able to relax knowing my family was safe from harm.
